Edward "Charlie" Kwapil
RACINE - Edward C. 'Charlie' Kwapil, 55, was with his beloved family when he left this earth Saturday, October 26, 2002, to begin his eternal life with his Lord. He was born in Racine March 8, 1947, son of the late Edward H. and Lorraine (nee: Lorence) Kwapil. On June 22, 1981, in Racine, he was united in marriage to Linda E. Cain. Charlie was a graduate of William Horlick High School "Class of 1965." He attended the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse before joining the military in November 1, 1966 through November 1, 1969.

While in the military, he served as a Military Policeman and fought in the Vietnam War. His daughter recently honored his comrades by placing his medals at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. Charlie was a Deputy Sheriff, serving Racine County for 28 years until his retirement in January of 2000. During his tenure, he worked on the Water Patrol, the Dive Team, and was a Hostage Negotiator. Charlie was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Moose Lodge, and served on the Board of Directors for the Racine Raiders. Charlie was an avid University of Wisconsin-Badger fan and loved spending time with his family at their summer home in Waupaca.

Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, and brother, who will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Linda; his children, Matthew and Amanda; his sister, Sandy (Ron) Wolter of Racine; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jerry and Carol Cain of Racine; sisters-in-law, Kathleen Cain of Racine, Lisa Cain of Florida; his niece and Godchild, Heather Wolter; devoted lifetime and family friend, Mark Eickhorst. Further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear and special friends.
